The purpose of this book is to provide a simple approach to understanding STRENGTH for the average person who is interested in strength training from the viewpoint of preventive medicine. The book is divided into the concepts of strength training, strength equipment and strength facilities.

The general image usually portrayed by individuals who train with weights is the "Pumping Iron" image. This concept has produced a number of misconceptions about strength training. Research has indicated that people who want to get started on a strength program lack the knowledge of where to obtain the necessary information to start such a program. The goal of this book is to provide information on how to develop an individual strength program for preventive medicine.

Ken Snell Ken Snell is a strength and fitness equipment expert and manager of All American Gym. He is a powerlifter who holds eight World Records and over 20 American Records. He is an adjunct professor and has 25 years experience with strength training and designing wellness facilities. Ken was written up in the April issue of Sports Illustrated.
Dr. Les Knight is a fellow of American College Sports Medicine. He is Director of the ISC Division of Wellness and directs medical seminars in Colorado on "The Role of Exercise and Nutrition in Preventive Medicine." Dr. Knight is a consultant and provides wellness programs for medical centers and corporations across the country. He is the author of 33 books and over 100 scientific articles.
